Does Facebook check these advertisers for credibility? Some of the prices are just ridiculously low. I can't afford to send good money just to find out they are scammers.

You would have to ask paypal that question.
But personally I find most of these bargain 'sites' are in China.
We have more posts on here for items that arrive fake / not as described / tat from that country than any other.
Then if you win a dispute you have to send it back trackable which often cost more than the item was worth in the first place.
Advice is voluntary.
