Ecommerce buyer claimed item I shipped was defective but he inked my boots instead of buyers remorse

Amerikan_22 purchased my Roma rain boots and 15 days later opened a return citing they were damaged. I explained they were pristine (why ship damaged items when bidders can make a claim and pay all fees); PayPal approved the return and he received cost item plus shipping back from PP plus there is a return $16.79 return ship fee on my ebay account. He buys from USA sellers for Japanese buyers. What recourse do I have? There was not one mark on them; I suspect buyers remorse. I suggested if they arrived damaged to initiate a USPS claim and he refused!!! Any help on this scenario? TIA
