I purchased a product and received something that is completely different. I tried to work with the merchant but they we not helpful. I would like to open a dispute however, the transaction is not listed in my account activity. I was having a problem completing the transaction with my attached credit card so instead I used an unlinked debit card. I have a confirmation email from Paypal showing the transaction id and all related information. Is there a reason the transaction is not listed or a dispute can be initiated without it being listed?

If you need to open a dispute for a 'guest buyer' transaction then you can.......
1. Phone Paypal customer services and see if they will open one for you (difficult at the moment due to covid)
OR
2. Contact your card issuer for a chargeback.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
