Anyone else a victim of a fraudulent transaction that PayPal refused to correct?

On 2/1/2020, I purchased a MIDI controller from a vendor ad on Facebook, paying with PayPal. Several weeks later, I got a package with 2 extremely cheap speakers. As it turns out, this company (Gehuyn) has nothing to do with the company making the MIDI controller, and in fact the controller isn't even for sale yet.

In spite of all of this being clearly fraud, PayPal refused to reimburse me. I was told that I could send the speakers back to China (at a cost of about $40 to me on a total transaction of $45) by a certain date.

Enter Corona Virus, and the order to remain in home.

PayPal has now denied my claim because I didn't want to break the law by trying to go out to ship the junk I was send. I live in the same county that PayPal is headquartered in, so they should realize that I'm not being dishonest with this.

Is the $45 loss going to kill me? No - but I fee really disappointed that PayPal not only wasn't willing to fix the issue to begin with, but then just closed the dispute when I didn't want to break the law.

The dispute system is run on algorithms (If A, then B) and pays no attention that there is a pandemic going on and PayPal staff is reduced. Not knowing how long it is going to get a response, you can find recourse with your credit card issuer instead, if that is how you paid.

Or you can continue to keep trying to contact customer service until you can speak to a dispute specialist:

  1. Log on.
  2. Click HELP at the top menu.
  3. Scroll down and click CONTACT US.
  4. Scroll down to click CALL US or other contact options.

Call early, during business hours, west coast time to try to get a US rep.

Or contact via social media:

Facebook (US): https://www.facebook.com/PayPal/

Facebook (Worldwide): https://www.facebook.com/paypal

Twitter (US): @AskPayPal

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Thank you @sharpiemarker for the info. I have gone back and forth via messages with PayPal support to no avail. Even though there was a name with the replies, it seems as if it's just copy/paste text that does nothing to address the issue.

I made a purchase from Robobco back in February. Just received it today and it’s not what I ordered!! I can’t even get to a screen to tell PayPal.

@Ghrcr - Try going to https://www.paypal.com/disputes/ and filling out the info there. Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did, but that's the place to start
