Hi,
Having problems with this card reader, its poor battery life causes problems to start with, but yesterday in the middle of a customer keying in their pin it just started flashing green and red.
I have tried holding the reset button down, for very long periods! it just reboots, starts flashing green and eventually the red light is added to this flashing green light.
I have tried turning it off and on again, holding the sync button but nothing is working.
I have called (friday morning) and arranged for a new one to be sent out, which I wont get until wednesday apparently!
This leaves me stuck as far as being able to take payments. It needs to be done with a pin number as the payments are around £100 on average, I dont want someone going to their bank and saying that wasnt me, the banks will just give them their money back as its not been authorised with chip and pin!
Is there any way I can reset this device in an attempt to get it working again?
(Ive followed instructions to reset, but it doesnt seem to do anything other than reboot the thing)
Also, no matter what I do, I cannot get the bluetooth light to illuminate at all.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,
Have you attempted a full factory reset? If not, here's how:
- Locate the small opening next to the power button on the Chip & PIN card reader.
- Insert a pin into this opening and hold it until you see the green triangle flash 8 times and one asterisk sign lit up. This indicates that the device has undergone a factory reset.
- Once the Bluetooth light starts blinking, pair the card reader to your smartphone or iPad and open the PayPal Here app.
- Complete any initialisation or updates if the App prompts you to. We recommend that you complete this step using a WiFi connection and with the card reader connected to a power source.
- Once the card reader has been initialised and the software update has been completed (if needed), the card reader is ready to be used for payments.
If you have attempted this and are still experiencing issues after speaking with our PayPal Here team then it sounds like you will need to wait for the replacement reader.
Apologies for any inconvenience,
Siobhan

Hi MrsCruiser1,
Welcome to the community.
Sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties with the reader, Here are some tips if your bluetooth is not picking up the reader.
-
Hold down the SYNC button until the Bluetooth light is blinking quickly
-
Make sure the reader is charged by connecting the USB cable
-
Go into your Bluetooth settings and remove the card reader from your list. Then run through steps 1-4 again.
Please contact our PayPal Here team directly on <removed> or <removed> or email us at <removed>
Hope this helps,

Hello Siobhan
I was wondering if you can help, I am having the same problem with my card reader. I have went through the steps and have done a factory reset several times, the card reader is being charged on the mains. The reader just goes back to flashing red and green, there are no updates on the PayPal Here app on my ipad.
Many thanks

Hi jaynecn,
Welcome to the community.
Sorry to hear you are having issues with the reader, when you say it is being charged on the mains are you seeing the reader go to full charge? When the reader is connected to the app, you can check its battery by going to the app, tapping the menu icon, then Card Readers.
Also, do you have the app running in the background as this can drain the battery, we recommend closing the app and the card reader will go into standby.
If the card reader is not being used it is best to switch it off completely by holding the on/off button got 5 seconds.

Hello Siobhan
I mean that I am trying to charge the card reader by connecting it to the plug socket. I am not able to check the battery level as the reader will not switch on the Bluetooth when I press the 'sync' button.
I have tried unfollowing the paypal card reader on my ipad and trying to connect it again with the card reader using bluetooth, but that hasn't worked. I have tried factory reset several times, but it keeps on going back to flashing red and green light and I can't get the bluetooth to switch on.
Many thanks
Jayne
