Card reader not charging green and red lights flash alternatively

I have been charging the card reader for over 6 hours and it doesn't appear to be charging.  The green light flashes 13 times, the bluetooth flashes briefly then the red light comes on for about a second.

I haven't used the reader for a few months but need it for an event tomorrow. Because it isn't charged it is not connected to the ipad.

Do I need a relacement card reader?

So sorry for the delayed response. Are you still experiencing issues with this? 

If so, have you tried using a different cable to charge the reader?
