I purchase an item from ebay for nearly £200 and informed the seller it was a christmas present.He has just replied to an email from me saying he has not posted it yet and its nearly xmas eve.I used the pay after delivery option is there anyway i can cancel now.

No you can't cancel.
You can however file a dispute for item not received via the resolution tab in your paypal account and paypal will give the seller 10 days to provide a tracking number that proves delivery of the item to you or you should get a refund.
Unfortunately the dispute process does not take into account items that don't arrive by christmas.
Advice is voluntary.
