I have a credit limit of £400, what happens if i see something over 400 that i want ?, will the extra automatically come from my bank account or won't it let me do that ?

If you are making a payment with PayPal Credit you will need to have the full amount available in your balance. It is not possible to split a payment between PayPal Credit and another funding source. If you attempt a higher payment we will automatically request a credit increase for you but if that is not approved the payment will fail.
