Paypal balance - cannot complete purchase.

I have £40 paypal balance.

 

Trying to buy something for £39.95.

 

When I log into paypal to do the transaction, I get the following screen:

 

"We're sorry. We can't complete your purchase at this time.
Please return to the merchant and choose another way to pay."
 
There is no bank account nor card attatched to my account, but seeing as I have more than the total amount in my actual balance, I'm frustrated as to why this doesn't work.

Try this >>

Click on profile in your paypal account (cog icon next to log out) > click on payments in the blue band at the top > scroll down to 'your preferred way to pay' > select online > change and put a dot in the one for your paypal balance. You can change it back when you want to.

 

If it still doesn't work then it normally means you have to verify your paypal account with a back up funding source ie a credit card first.
