I'm trying to make a direct payment from my account without success. The sytem insists that I must enter my card details in order to do this. I haven't noticed having to do this before. Is this normal? Are all the card fields always compulsory for a diect payment?

To send funds from your paypal account balance you need to have a back up card linked to your paypal account as well.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Hi Somenameorother,
Thank you for joining the PayPal Community Forum.
As Kernowlass advised, if there are not enough funds in your PayPal balance, your card would be used as a funding source. Even if you have the full amount in your balance, you may be requested to add a card as a backup.
You can find more information about how payments are funded here
Thanks,
Jessica.
