How do I show item was emailed vs shipped?

Client Paid for Item and it was digital in nature and was emailed the Item. Item was confirmed received by them and working great! I didn't ship this item. How do I show it was emailed vs shipped?

Well PayPal does not support Digital transaction protection

Mark the transaction as shipped first then on the buyers end the option should be available to mark it as item received.
