How do you transfer money from a debit card to your paypal account?

I've been trying for days already.

If you click on the "add funds" link at the top of the paypal page you will see you can only add funds from your bank account.

By debit card to you mean one that is attached to you bank account or the type you buy at a store which is preloaded.

The store purchase types are usually not able to be added to your Paypal account.
