pls help iv sold an item on gumtree and recieved emails to say paid

i sold something on kent gumtree for 300 used paypal my balance says zero yet recieved emails confirming payments

Someone is trying to scam you. Your fraudulent buyer have sent a false PayPal payment confirmation e-mail to you in the hope that you would trust that e-mail and ship out the item. Never just trust PayPal e-mails. Always log in to your PayPal account to confirm payment. If you see no money in your PayPal balance then you have not received any payment.

It is important to report fraud to PayPal. So forward the fraudulent e-mail to this address : spoof@paypal.com
