my paypal balance says negative 56 pounds and ive made no withdrawels why could this be?

Sometimes if a payment from the bank account fails this can put you into a negative balance, the seller will still be able to process your order as PayPal has paid upfront. There are no charges for going into a negative balance.

Another thing it could be is that if a dispute has been raised against you for an item you have sold, this will cause the funds to be frozen and if you have already made the withdrawal this can cause a negative balance.

Best advice is to check your history and select the option 'all activity with balance' and you will be able to see step by step for exactly what has caused it.
