Paypal setting up direct debit without my permission?

hi, i wonder if anyone can help?

i checked my bank this morning and noticed that paypal had set up a direct debit for 11 pence without my permission, i did in no way authorise a direct debit and despite it being such a small amount i feel violated, my bank account is sacred and to take money without my prior knowledge is bad enough but to set it to do so every month is way beyond bad.

does anyone know why this would happen and how to email paypal so that i can give them a piece of my mind please?

i have cancelled the direct debit now and i'm going to tell my bank not to sent any up without my prior permission.

thanks in advance for your advice,

jo

When you add a bank account to paypal it sets up the direct debit mandate so that paypal can take authorised payments for any purchases you make (or pay your Ebay fees).
No company eg water/electric can take funds from your bank account on a regular basis without that direct debit.
However the amount shown is always the ''last'' transaction / amount that you paid to a seller via paypal.

Sometimes it does not coincide with the date you made the payment as paypal CREDIT the seller in advance and then paypal wait for the funds to transfer from your bank account, they can 'leave' that account at anytime from a few hours up to a few days later.

If you have funds in your paypal account then paypal would take from there first and then if that was not enough the rest from your linked bank account so that may explain the 11p.

If you have removed that direct debit then you won't be able to use your bank account as a funding source to pay sellers OR add or withdraw funds from your paypal account.
