@CandyfosterFirst of all, BEFORE you mark anything lets understand what you are talking about. There are really only 2 times that YOU need to mark an item shipped 1) when you sell a Local Pick up item and the Buyer comes and gets it and 2) you take the package to the post office, pay the postage but do NOT use tracking. In the case of using eBay and or PayPal to print your shipping labels that process automatically uploads a tracking number to the Sold item file and once you get the acceptence scan at the post office the system updates to verify shipment so you don't really have to do anything.
