Alternative to PayPal for Ebay sellers to escape unreasonable fees?

Hello everybody Happy New Year.

Can anyone help me understand the fee concept that has been added?

I have not had this happen before and It is nearly impossible to get through to someone right now.

I sold a dress on ebay for $1.99 (was a steal for the buyer). I received the "payment" through paypal via ebay.

It appears that I only received $1.63 due to a processing fee?

The customer REFUSED to pay the shipping and handleing so I refunded her $1.99.

At the time I hadnt seen the payment so I did not know I only got $1.63. (18% fee???)

When I refunded the buyer her payment,it shows that I paid $1.99 for which she received $1.93.

In any case I paid back $1.99. So I have lost .66 cents and did not make the original sale.

So I am at (negative) -$1.99 plus  (negative) - .66.

In essence I am at a (negative) -$2.65. Instead of adding $1.99 to my account for a sale I lost 133% of the total expected amount for the sale.

I know that the literal amount is minute but the idea is illogical.

If the dress had been $199.00 for example, on those terms the loss would have been quite significant.

I am having trouble accepting this as justified.  I would really like to know,

if anyone knows an alternative form of payment to use for ebay transactions rather than paypal?

Thank you for your input.
