You need to phone PayPal support now.  There is no way you will be able to fix this yourself.  You need to ask for a PayPal Here specialist.  They do have tech support who can guide you.  Hopefully, they will be able to help.

As for the app, try to uninstall. If that is successful, then just download the PayPal Here app again--without the bluetooth reader turned on.

I'm unclear about how the 2 events are related for you.  Did the reader have full power while trying to update?  Was PPH working correctly on you phone at the time.

Just a few days ago a PPH bluetooth reader had an update problem when the reader ran out of power during update.  I never saw an update for the solution as the suggestion was to contact PayPal support.

I do know that one is advised to make sure the reader has full power before attempting an update.

Hello everyone,

I understand that troubleshooting your PayPal Here reader is important. Here is a quick checklist to help troubleshoot:

  • If you are using iOS 7, make sure to update your microphone settings. Settings > Privacy > Microphone > PayPal Here > On.
  • Make sure the app recognizes the card reader.
  • Make sure you are connected via Wi-Fi or Data Plan and have a strong connection.
  • Make sure your phone is not in a case.
  • Make sure your volume is turned all the way up.
  • Make sure your Location Services is turned on.
  • Make sure your Bluetooth is turned off.
  • Make sure you have launched the app before inserting the card reader.
  • Make sure the card numbers are facing the PayPal logo when swiping.
  • Make sure the app is up to date.
  • Make sure you are in the U.S. The app will not work outside of the country.

EMV Reader:

  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
  • Make sure firmware is updated on the reader.
  • Make sure the operating system is up to date.
  • Last resort, do a factory reset on the reader.

Tap Customer Service & Help to find additional troubleshooting tips and also test the card reader. I would also suggest reviewing the PayPal Here page on the PayPal website for additional graphics or troubleshooting advice. Of course, a PayPal customer service representative is always a phone call or email away.

Right now I have a useless card reader. The bloody thing keeps asking for an update and failing.

My WIFI connection is solid, bluetooth is not a worry but the card reader will not update. No update no joy and yet it was working fine a month ago.

Thanks Paypal tomorrow is Sunday and I'm going to loose a bucket load of sales thanks to this inferior devise.

Funny, everyone told me I should have gone with portable eftpos cos paypal here doesn't work but I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Cheap **bleep**!!
