I was trying to use my paypal account and it went to the verification page.  I put send text and it says "This number does not appear to be registered in your name".  I have verified my number with Paypal.  I even double checked with my phone carrier that the account name was correct.  Could anyone help me with this?

Hi There,

Ok So This Will Be An Account Issue So For This You Will Have To Call In & Speak To A PayPal Account Specialist & Have Them Double Check, If Not, Triple Check This For You On Their End & In Their System As I Also Had The Same Issue As Well Until I Made Them Triple Check & They Finally Saw It & Verified My Account. Do That, Speak To An Account Specialist & I Promise You They Will Get This Resolved For You! Good Luck To You & I Hope I Resolved Your Issues/Questions Today! Have A Good One!

I have the same problem. I can't add a bank account using the text verification.

It says that ''This number does not appear to be registered in your name''

I called Paypal just now and was told that it is because my cell phone is a prepaid phone and not attached to my name.

Additionally, the pre-recording that runs you through the system prior to speaking to an agent told me that I did not have a phone registered to my account.

That is incorrect because I do have a phone registered to my account. I looked in settings and it's right there.

Seems like they only want recognize people with phone contracts.

Whuheva...

I just won't be adding a bank account, I suppose. Not my fault. I have a phone number on my account. If they text me my code, I'll receive it and put it into the verification.

I have the same problem and have been on the phone with 2 reps and a "manager." Given the total run-around each time. The first time I was assured that the problem would be resolved within 24 hours. The reps have absolutely no clue what they are talking about so I asked to speak to a manager (Trevor) who was very condescending and rude. Basically told me there is nothing I can do. I have been a customer since 2002 and I have already sent them my license, utility bill and several other explanations to verify my identity. My phone is showing that it is verified on their website. When I call the recording verifies my phone. My phone is definitely in my name. I even created a security key. This is ridiculous. Has anyone had any luck solving this problem? I am unable to purchase anything via Paypal.

This is a glaring problem for using paypal to link to your bank account.  For one thing, I work in the industry that supports this "phone" look up services and I can tell you my problem is that the data is not always accurate or current.  I recently changed phone numbers.  The assumption that people never change phone numbers is completely bogus and now I have to wait for whatever database out there this information comes from to be updated before I can make changes or I need to call support.  Well I have called support once and the issue is still not resolved.  There needs to be another way to validate your information than using your cell phone.  I am willing to bet I am not an edge case and for me this is a real pain in the **bleep**.  So now it is back to calling paypal.

Absolutely abysmal. It's 2017 and no one even uses phone numbers anymore -- At least, not in the traditional sense. That's like FORCING a check for a "HOME" phone number in this day and age (like, a wired phone number. Does anyone still use those?). It's all about data and virtual numbers. But not to be sketchy, because it's the smart thing to do. Anyone that has any knowledge about using voip to save like $100/mo would most definitely do that.

Living in the 90s, are we? Welp, I can't verify my PayPal because I don't want to pay $100/mo for a satellite phone number instead of a data phone number. How f--d up is this? As if this is more secure than connecting my bank information.
