Hello,
i have a paypal account for some years now and didn't used it for quite some time.
The time i needed to login it asked me for my telephone number like 2********45.
Problem is i don't have this telephone anymore for some years now and when i click
the Try other ways link, it again asks for my telephone.
I do use the e-mail that im login to paypal, can't verify with it and not by ancient number?

I searched for my case in Message center and all answsers refer to password thing, nothing about what we could do if we don't have our telephone numbers.
Second i tried to send something in written form, to an e-mail or online form etc. anything. Failed again.
It seems your suggestion is simply the only way to resolve but i'm not a native speaker of English and i'm really frustrated.
I'm disappointed but well it's a sign.

It happens. Hit the "Login to Ask the community" button to create a question for the PayPal community.
