These instructions don't work:

You can manage your payment preferences for online checkout in Settings.

Here's how to change your payment preferences for PayPal in-store checkout:

  1. Log in to PayPal.
  2. Click the Settings icon next to "Log out."
  3. Click Edit next to "Payment preferences."  <<< ¡No hay!
  4. Click your preferred payment method under "Paying in stores."

Will somebody please change my preferred payment method to "PayPal Balance"?

we are working on rolling out the functionality
to have your PayPal balance set as your preferred payment
and hope to have that implemented before the end of the year.

All is forgiven.

Dear Kernowlass:

Thank you for the suggestion.  I was evidently mistaken in thinking that I had done that by posting here.

What steps do you think I could take in order to accomplish that objective?

Go to Profile (the cog wheel icon next to log out button).

Click Payments

Scroll down to and click In-Store Payments

For online payments, you can select your preferred payment method in Wallet page (can't select the balance though).  Then when you checkout, you may select another payment method, including your balance but there are reports of PayPal not letting people select that, so be sure you have an alternate you can use.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Thanks, sharpiemarker.

This all works as you said.  However, I have a long string of call-and response messages with Consumer Services which repeatedly suggest that I CAN select The Balance at My Wallet.  Based on your description and my experience, though, I cannot.  Odd that they won't just come right on out and say that, as you did.

This seems to be the dark side of PayPal.  Of course they want to bias my actions however they can to keep my PayPal balance high.  That money is earning them interest somehow, you betcha.  Them and not me.

This experience has caused me to look for alternatives to PayPal -- and find some!

PayPal hasn't been the same since Elon Musk sold it to eBay in late 2002.  An now it's even worse since it became an independent entity in 2014.

Thanks for chiming in.

Ha! I was about to go insane trying to get those instructions to work....

I haven't used Paypal in years & wow.... has it become AWFUL. I feel like Paypal is more & more becoming a wicked social experiment.
