Can't add funds from bank anymore because SS isn't verified?

Hey. I'm new to the forum, so hopefully I can get this question understood & answered correctly.
I checked other topics, but I couldn't seem to find one that dealt with what I'm dealing with!

I've been on Paypal for a while. I've never had any problems (used to use it for ebay, now just other stuff mostly). But not too long ago they put a hold/limit on my acct. This wasn't too bad, because I don't usually deal with large ammounts of money anyway.

Most of the time I just keep money here for Etsy, etc.

But NOW it's suddenlly not letting me (as of like, a couple of days ago) TRANSFER funds from my bank acct, which I've been doing as long as I've had the acct here! I checked all my info, & it was saying I needed to verify the last 4 digits of my SS. So I gave them that, but it says they're not verified, & I have to FAX or upload them proof of my SS???? Why??? I need to put some $ into my paypal acct, but it won't let me, & since I have neither a copier or fax machine, I don't think I'll be able to get the info in the 3 days paypal requested.

Will this result in them locking my acct or something?! I hope not...It really annoys me because nothing I'VE done has changed, just paypal, & now it's getting annoying.

Anyway, sorry this is so long. Anyone else dealt with this/have info that might help?

Thanks!

This is driving me up the wall as well, especially as I sent them everything they requested, got an email saying that the restrictions were lifted, yet it's been a week and I STILL CANNOT ADD FUNDS! Support is useless as well as they told me to do what I had already done!

The reason for this change is because the IRS has instituted new regulations requiring online money services (such as PayPal) to gather everyone's social security numbers and other info so that the IRS can tax people who make over $20000 using said services. It's things like this that put so many people off about the government: pointless bureaucracy and regulation that serves no purpose but to make everything harder to do for normal people. I used to be able to use PayPal just fine and now because of the IRS, I can't use it at all. I want things to go back to the way they were.

I was in the same boat and found this and other forums in which customers reported having this problem, calling customer service, and being told that PayPal isn't sure why this problem persists. I went through the same routine. But in response to "clear your cache and try in a couple of hours," I cited forums such as this, suggested cache clearing wouldn't solve it, and asked them to "escalate" the problem. Within one minute I had a manager, and within one minute more I became able to add money.

Hope this is helpful. And good luck!

I called PayPal and I got this woman who didn't know what she was doing; she told me that since PayPal would automatically take money from my bank account when I overdraw my PayPal account, I wouldn't even need to have that option fixed; she also tried to lie to me and insisted that they actually shut that option off for just that reason. But I didn't give up, and eventually she transferred me to a "specialist", and he fixed the problem in about a minute.

I just found out yesterday my account was restricted--same reason. Thanks for everyone sharing--I'll wait a day or so then call customer service if I have to. This is annoying, but only half paypal's fault, as I see it--the slow-to-resolve part. Basically what I did was go to my BoA account and take a screen shot of a transaction which showed my ss number, made it into a pdf, and uploaded the file. If that doesn't solve things fairly quickly I'll call customer service and ask for a manager to help.

OK I don't know if you got this answered or not but I just went through this. I even scanned & sent a copy of my SS card. I kept getting this message to go to the Resolution Center. So I gave up & called & found out they never got the upload. So he took me through it. It's actually very easy!

Hover over the Profile link

Click on My Personal Info

Scroll to the bottom of the page where it says Tax ID Number

In that section it has a spot for SS Number Click on that

Then add your SS Number & then Verify your SS Number

After that it should only take about 30 minutes!

If that doesn't work call them & they can take you through it step by step!

Hope you already got this fixed but if not I hope this helps!!
