Using Paypal to accept credit cards for services? Be prepared to go without your money for a while

I run a non-eBay, service-based business.

A client wanted to pay me using a credit card, so I signed up for PayPal's invoicing service. The client paid the invoice the same day (Jan. 7)  but I never read PayPal's fine print, which says they don't release the money for up to 21 days (!?!?), so I still don't have the money.

PayPal seems to have difficulty with non-eBay transactions involving non-tangible goods. Their "get your money faster" advice simply doesn't apply for this type of transaction, and many of the "help" links circle back to (irrelevant) eBay web pages.

Any advice on what other services might be more reasonable? Anyone use Squareup.com?
