I'm selling a laptop for $500 and within an hour of posting i got an offer for $650 to pay with paypal and have it shipped somewhere, my question is if I have tracking on the shipment, the origional post on craigs list, and screen shots of the text messages is there any way that I could still be getting scammed out of money?

 A TYPICAL PAYPAL SCAM.

They encourage you to use paypal and often ask you to send the item as a gift to a relative somewhere often Nigeria.

You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.

It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.

They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.

They also threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.

Paypal do not tell you to send trackable, they advise it for selling protection but it is not compulsory.

Typical scam.

Advertising a laptop on Craig's list is like posting an invitation for a scam.

When you sell just send the buyer a detailed PayPal invoice which includes all details, pictures, and shipping information.  Buyer pays.  You check payment details for completion and OK to ship to PayPal address.

There are very smart, savvy, and knowledgable buyer scammers.  You need to become an expert and really understand PayPal policies for buyers and sellers.  You need to know it all if you want to protect yourself.
