Scam from Shoe seller in China

Has anyone else been scammed by http://www.rekhsob.com/

I know I have been scammed; I'm currently working with the Paypal resolution team for a refund.  After reading some of the other 'scam' postings, I'm wondering if I will be successful in getting a refund.  Here's how the scam worked so far......

I see a legit website selling shoes.  Place an order for $120.00 paid thru Paypal and feeling pretty secure about the transaction because the seller's website uses Paypal.  I receive a 14 cent plastic shower cap sent to me from China in a small padded envelope.  I was racking my brain trying to figure out what was behind this.  Why did I receive a shower cap from this company?  When Paypal said they would refund my money as long as I returned the item I was sent.  I could use any shipping company that has online tracking.  My first stop was the UPS store.  They told me it would cost me $90.00 to send it via UPS with online tracking (a .02 lb envelope).  So, there's part of the scam......now I have to pay an additional $90.00 to get my $120.00 back!   If I decide that's just too much money and not worth it, the seller wins and gets $120.00 from me for nothing (oh, the seller spent 14 cents for the shower cap and whatever the shipping cost was, I highly doubt it was over $5.00 to ship that junk to me, but I have to pay thru the nose to send it back to China).

My next stop was the US Post Office.  The price is around $12.00 for registered mail w/tracking, but I have to find out today if the tracking is the 'online tracking' that the Paypal email said I have to use.

After reading some posts here, I realize that there might be more to this scam..........I saw  that when a buyer sent their merchandise back to China, it ended up sitting at a depot in China and the seller said they never received the merchandise back and Paypal didn't issue a refund because the seller never received the stuff.  I hope my claim doesn't end that way.

This dispute is not over yet.  I am currently working thru the dispute process with Paypal and I am going to try and send this cheap hotel give-away shower cap back to the address provided to me by Paypal.

I will never buy anything from China over the internet again.

I'm surprised that Paypal still does business with a website that scams its customers.

Is there somewhere that a warning can be posted about scams like this (besides this forum)?

Will Paypal discontinue dealing with a company that scams their American buyers?

Hi A-Dog and kn-76,

Welcome to the forums! 🙂

That's terrible! A shower cap? I definitely suggest giving Customer Service a call or email. In your case, I think a call would be best. Having a conversation with a representative will allow you to work out the details in one real-time conversation rather than back and forth in written communication, and any misunderstandings can be more readily clarified.

I wish you the best of luck. Please come back and let us know what happened!

Hi A-Dog,

Thanks for posting an update.

If someone is directly affected by this type of scam and asked to send back a shower cap, they may need to contact PayPal directly so their individual circumstances can be reviewed.

Disputes filed against sellers are all part of the seller's record. Trends of bad behavior on individual accounts very quickly stand out, and in situations where characteristics of a widespread scam among multiple sellers become known, we catch the trends even more quickly. Reporting the facts accurately and thoroughly in your dispute will help us find the scammers more quickly so we can investigate and protect other buyers.

PayPal is not able to discuss actions taken regarding another PayPal member, so that would be why it seemed unclear in the conversation you had with the representative you spoke with. Thank you for leaving the representative good feedback in the survey. I am sure she will appreciate it!

Thank you also for looking out for your fellow buyers! 🙂

I did call as soon as I tracked the package and told them I was concerned that my dispute would be closed as soon as I receive the bogus item.

I am very satisfied with PayPal.  They refunded me the amount and case resolved today!  This is the first time I have been scammed online and I am thankful that I had paid with PayPal, otherwise this probably would have not been resolved or take forever if I had paid with a credit card directly.  I will now be careful of unknown websites and vendors especially outside of Ebay and those not within the Bill Me Later merchants.  I also will check the site Scambook which was very helpful in finding out that rios-shoes was a scam.

I thank you all for your input for helping me resolve this issue.  I am so glad I found this community Smiley Happy!

I stopped reading after "Shower Cap"

Here's the scam list:

"shower cap"

more ridiculous return addresses

and "pending transaction" despite being cleared by your paypal

List of other scam aliases and tags (please feel free to add):

"free shipping women shoes, shoes, men shoes,Leisure shoes, fashion shoes"

I'm the type of person to follow routine procedures (I'm even signed up to the national Do Not Call list) so I pointlessly followed through paypal's automated dispute process. But it's best to just Call in person before returning shipping. He kindly refunded me on the spot. Apparently, that seller received so many strikes from buyers that he wasn't even on the system anymore.(Paypal > Contact Us > Call Us> answer until Dispute, Agent option).

I had wasted time & money (returning the cap for $6, regular customs-confirmation# since actual tracking# is >$99...my Case ended up being Closed without refund because "The tracking information provided by the seller did not confirm that the item was shipped to you"). Then, I finally called in.

Remember, the Dispute/Claims is only automated. If you're suspicious of a transaction that's cleared for weeks now, it's best to call before that [scammer] removes all money from their account.

I went as far as filing with the FTC since scammers are usually are hard to track; they don't have a static location with all these fake banking accounts and addresses. I even asked TheFind.com (like a google listing for stores) to remove them from their Results. I purchased from them both, but they are obviously the same crappy webdesigner,  and have no Verisign certifications. I hadn't noticed the spelling errors before on their Contact-Us either...I felt like a dork after that. :-B Lesson learned. I'm sticking to highly-rated ebayers and popular sites and/or ones with active facebook customer pages.  :-]

Rios Shoes was the seller I purchased from -- same scenario, same outcome though.  Two weeks after placing the order I received a $67 shower cap instead of the two pairs or shoes I ordered.  I had filed the dispute and escalated the claim ONE day after the transaction cleared, when I discovered the Rios Shoes scam online.

Thank you to BadJuice for posting this advice!!!!  I didn't go so far as to consider returning the shower cap, but my case had been closed by the automated system and I was **bleep** but ready to give up.

Called PayPal just now, Jesse was the representative who handled my call with professionalism, kindness and efficiency.  I received a full refund.

Thank you again!

Active Facebook pages doesn't mean they are legit either...thats where I saw the product I ordered. I clicked the link and it took me to another website www.coogi.co web page.  I saw paypal and felt comfortable ordering a pair of sneakers for my gr.son's bday.  They wern't cheap so I really felt it was a legit site.

Then someone on my friends list said "I hope you didn't order, they are a scam". I felt sick!!  Payment was already gone from my paypal account, but I sent an email off to support and after 6hrs not hearing back I picked up the phone and called paypal direct. I had great sucess in that the rep  opened a dispute right then on the phone.  The next nite at 11:30pm and a very chinese lady told me my "package" had been sent out and she had a tracking # for me. When I asked for the tracking # she changed the conversation and told me to "close dispute" on paypal. I said I would close dispute when I got a refund. She then said she would send refund if I closed dispute. I asked where I could send my "package" back to so I could get a refund. She said no need to return. Red flag, because if they had sent out the sneakers already why would they then send my money back too?

I held my ground and told her I would remove dispute when I got the refund in my paypal account.  She hung up on me. The next day I got notice from paypal that the seller had sent a refund, 7 days later the money was in my account.  These guys are opening and shutting down websites at an alarming rate.  I did a search and found that this website had only been up and running for 78 days. Wish I had done the search before i ordered and not after.

I think we need a list going on the community here so ppl can try to avoid what we have gone thru.

You went to .co or .com...or was it .info? Ah, that stinks..So their facebook customer service actually responded to posts (and even deleting original user's negative posts..which must've been hundreds)?

Are we allowed to discuss brandnames here? Anyway.. isn't Coogi a real brand? I know sites like sammydress have imitations like sammidress (or something similar). I don't really trust hyperlink Titles..I like to type out the original hyperlink myself.

Like, if you've ever received spam emails looking exactly like your student loan's official emails or your bank's---same photos, fonts, etc---and it tells you, "you need to change your password for so and so reason, go to this link and input your old password and new". Unfortunately, the hyperlink Titles will be your bank's name, but when you hover over it, the link itself will be some ridiculously long hyperlink, like meu.Bank.com/ejkl49_123/phish/e3 instead of sending you to the real www.Bank.com/.

Unfortunately, out of those 78 days before shutting down, they probly made a couple of thousand bucks regardless, just for sitting on their buns...because not everyone bothers to follow-up on their purchases; they'll think, oh, **bleep** me, it's only $25 (imagine if just 4 people did that every day). And not everyone uses protective services like paypal...instead, they input their whole account and other sensitive info directly into those scam sites..

Thank you all so much for posting this information.  I got duped by Anne-cheap shoes.  Thanks to your advice, I did not even try to use the dispute resolution process.  I called as soon as I read that the shower cap was related to the shoes I had ordered.  My call had to be escalated to an account specialist, so be persistent if the first person to answer tries to steer you back to the automated process.  The second person I spoke with reversed the charges back to my account without any further discussion.

The same happened to me in August. Paypal refunded my money after I made several attempts at contacting someone www.riosshoes.com, sending emails to the address given and finally researching more just to find out it's a fraudulent company. The company uses several different online store and accepts payment from Paypal while stealing people's money.
