receiving payments

I have opened a paypal account yesterday. My friend has sent me money today. It still does not show up in my account. How long will it take for the money to appear in my paypal ? P.S : I have not linked my paypal account with my bank account yet. I hope I can still receive payment in paypal which I can spend online.

If you've confirmed your PayPal email address and your friend correctly spelled your email address, the payment should take no more than a few minutes to appear in your PayPal account.

Is the sent payment shown in your friend's PayPal account?  If yes, what is the status of the payment?  Does it have a cancel option?

Try sending a PayPal request money or invoice to your friend and have him send payment from the request money or invoice.

My friend gets this error message when she tries to send me money. "This recipient cant accept payments right now". I started paypal account 4 days ago. My email id is verified and my debit card is also verified. I am an Indian user. Please help me because I need that money urgent.

Did your friend send the funds in your currency or theres?

She sent the payment in her currency US $ . In my paypal account I have set default currency as US $. (Though I am from India)

I would have thought that the default currency could not be changed and had to be the currency of your country??

If so then you should also add dollars as a receiving currency via clicking on the ">" icon next to balance > manage currencies.

It was by default USD. I didn't change. Anyway my native currency (Induan rupee) does not appear in the drop down menu.
