When Do You Know a Payment has Absolutely, 100% cleared?

I have a gentlemen  three states away that wants to buy a boat from me using Paypal.  The amount is $18K.  Assuming this is an honest deal.  How do I know or can find out that the payment has cleared and is 100% complete before I release the boat.  Thanks, Steve

Is it a motor boat because there is NO paypal seller protection for motor vehicles of any type.

So the payment could be in your bank account when a buyer does a chargeback and you would have to refund the buyer and if you did not then paypal could sell the debt to a recovery firm.

Also there is this scam   >>>>>>>>>>.

 A TYPICAL PAYPAL SCAM.

They encourage you to use paypal.

They will wait till you agree and then say they need to send a courier to collect the boat or car etc.

You will then get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.

It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.

They will tell you in the spoof email that they have paid you extra and you must pay the shipping agent via western union / moneygram BEFORE the funds are released to you.

They are not interested in the boat, they just want the western union etc funds and you will never see money in your paypal balance.

They also threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.

Paypal NEVER expect you to use a rival money transfer service.

Also their is no seller protection on paypal for any type of motor vehicle.

PAYPAL IS THE LAST PAYMENT METHOD I WOULD USE FOR THIS AMOUNT OF MONEY BUT ITS UP TO YOU OF COURSE. PERSONALLY I WOULD WANT CASH ON COLLECTION OR DIRECT BANK TRANSFER.

I already told the guy to F*** off.  The give away was when one of the "paypal" emails said not to call paypal; yeah right.
