I have received an email from Paypal, which asked me to verify my account. This email has been sent to me on the 18. Feb ( If I remember correctly - or before) .

is that a legitimate email, or a hacker?

I clicked on it, and obtained a full red page.

The bottom of the email contained the above number.

I will now delete the email.

If its a spoof, DO NOT USE ANY LINK.

Firstly if the email addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email to ''cancel'' the transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

If there was a problem with your account paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email or by downloading an attachment, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

Thank you for your answer. There was a button, which said " verify account" , not an attachment.

I did click it, and the screen turned red.

So I have now decided to suspend my paypal account as I have only used it twice in 5 years.

Many thanks for your help.
