I needed a friend to send me some money so I "requested" money from him as he is on PayPal as well. Of course, stupid me, I got charged 2.9%.
There are so many ways to transfer money free of charge - no-one needs PayPal anymore.
I know I sound bitter, but closing my account is my middle finger response to PayPal.

Well your the one that chose the option where you get a fee.
You could have got a paypal.me personal link and requested money for free.
Or you could have told him to go to send money > family / friends and sent you the money and then as long as he didn't fund it with a card then again it would have been free.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
