Attempting to Cancel Mistaken International Gift

I gave money to somebody and thought his account was Canadian. I used my bank account's balance to fulfill the transaction instead of my PayPal balance. However, his account is in USA dollars. Therefore, Canandian dollars do no good.

I have tried to cancel the pending transaction, but there is no button to do so.

How can I cancel this gift so that I do it correctly?

PayPal Support has answered this question and satisfied both the gift recipient and me. Their answer is this:

Dear Alan <removed>,

Thank you for contacting PayPal Customer Support about canceling the transaction.

I understand that you want to cancel the eCheck payment you sent to Anon since they are only accepting payments sent in USD.

As a friendly reminder, please be advised that Anon has the option to accept the funds in CAD and convert it to USD. You can surely forward these steps to Anon:

Here's how they can accept money in a new currency

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click PayPal balance.
  3. Click Manage currencies.
  4. Select the currency you want to add.
  5. Click Add Currency.

Note:

  • When you accept money in multiple currencies, you have multiple account balances.
  • When a buyer sends money in a currency you accept, the money automatically appears in that currency’s balance.
  • When a buyer sends money in a currency you don’t accept, you’ll be asked to ‘Accept’ or ‘Deny’ the payment.
  • Your primary currency is the currency that you use to send and request payments.

Once the funds are available, they can then convert their account balance by following these easy steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click PayPal balanceunder your profile photo.
  3. Click Manage currencies.
  4. Enter the amount you want to convert under Currency Exchange.
  5. Select the currency to convert the funds from.
  6. Select the currency to convert the funds to.
  7. Click Calculateto see the currency conversion.
  8. Click Continueto transfer the funds.
  9. Click Exchange Currencyto confirm the transfer.

They can add a new currency to their account, convert from one currency to another, choose their primary currency and more on this page.

If you still want to cancel the transaction, kindly contact Anon and ask to "Deny" the payment.

Thank you for being a valued member of PayPal since [Not Important].
