When will PayPal have Chip and PIN card readers? (EMV?)

Does PayPal plan to have a card reader that will be able to accept the new chip cards and comply with new EMV standards?

Hi @purpledawn,

Welcome to the Community! 🙂

We don't have any plans to announce for Chip and PIN in the US at this time however we're always looking to improve and expand our products and selections.

We're happy to pass along this feedback to our product team! 🙂

I noticed that PayPal Here UK has these readers and capibilities, What if I were to Obtain one of these Chip/Pin Readers from the UK. Would it be able to Interface with the US Version of Paypal Here? If not why not PayPal release this Reader and App Update to the US? If the developers are worried about Security Issues and Concerns with Jailbroken and Rooted Devices why not write a couple of lines of code that check for these exploits?

Why isn't this in development in the US? As of October this year, if you don't have an EMV chip and pin reader, wouldn't the liability for any fraudulent transaction be taken on by the merchant (i.e.- PayPal user)?

As usual, it is impossible to find out things like this on the PP website but apparently they announced that they are coming out with one for the US soon. Check out http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/7682-paypal-here-emv.html

I noticed that when you are logged out you can go to https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/credit-card-reader and voila! you can order one now... but it requires that you set up an another account. Of course, this doesn't seem to be available anywhere on the website when you are logged in.

Doesn't Bezos ever hire people who think logically and systematically to implement this kind of stuff or does he only hire crazy guys like himself? His craziness is great for starting things but he needs better people to manage the implementations of his crazy ideas.

As a follow up, I followed the web link to order one (https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/credit-card-reader) and went ahead and clicked the order link. That took me to a page where I typed in my cell # to get a text with a link to download the reader. Even though I had the app already loaded I did it anyway because it said I could order the new reader through the app. I clicked the link on my phone and it took me to the Itunes download page and offered to update it. So I did and then logged in. But guess what, I cannot find any place to order the new one. Again, great idea but typical poor execution. One star for Paypal as far as this goes.

Too bad they can't figure this stuff out since the payment system is great.

This doesn't say how we will be getting one.  Will they automatically send one to users who already have PayPal Here? Do you have to order it? Do you have to have a business account?

Ashley, can you provide an update to this topic now that it is 3 months later?  I too read where it's coming to US soon.
