Paying through Paypal (payment request)

Hi,

I'm interested in purchasing two bikes from a company called longwise eu.
I was asked that  he either sends me a proforma invoice or Paypal payment request.

I told him I felt more comfortable through Paypal but I'm a little unsure of how safe this is.
It's the first time I'm paying through this method (I haven't paid anything yet really)

How does Payment request actually work and how safe is it?
Would I be sending out my money with no guarantee I get the item I'm purchasing?
That's my concern.

I would really apprecaite anybodys help!

You should have a choice of what funding source you want to use.

Here's a few tips on how PayPal looks at your funding sources:

PayPal will first look at your PayPal Account balance, if you have insufficient funds, PayPal will then take the funds from your Bank Account.  PayPal will do an instant transfer from your bank account assuming you have a current linked and confirmed credit card.  If the card is not current or no card, then the transfer from your bank account to pay for the purchase can take a few days, possibly up to 4.

If you have a credit card and no bank account, then the credit card will be used. This all happens assuming you don't elect to choose a funding source. Note, If you have both a bank account and credit card, you can choose to pay with your credit card on the PayPal Checkout screens by using the pay with another source option. There you can select your card from the dropdown.

It is possible to pay using the funds in your Account balance and the remainder with a credit card however, you must first elect to pay with your credit card. Your available balance will be used up and the remainder is charged to your card. As this now looks like you've sent a single payment, you remain eligible for Buyer Protection. You would not be eligible for Buyer Protection, if you paid for the item with two separate transactions.

What you cannot do is split a single payment between 2 bank accounts, 2 credit/debit card accounts or a bank account and a credit/debit card account. In addition, you cannot split a single payment between 2 PayPal accounts.

One last thought ....
If you do have a credit card, you can always elect to pay with it.  Should you have an issue with the purchase and you go thru the PayPal Dispute process and they don't decide in your favor, you can then contact your card issue as they may be able to do a chargeback for you.

Request an invoice - it's better documentation.

As long as the items you're buying can be shipped, tracked and insured if applicable, you should be covered.

Yeah the item can be shipped and tracked (which they'd have to give me once it's dispatched) and I have a guarantee of 2 years.

If I request an invoice I'd have to pay through my bank account not through Paypal right?

Thank you for the prompt reply! It was very helpful.

I'll tell them to send me a Paypal invoice and pay through that.
I have some money on Paypal but I'll be putting the remaining on my Visa Card so that it's one smooth transition.

Thanks again!
