Ebay PayPal Help ?

I sold a item on Ebay.Ebay said they paid so i shipped.When i checked my paypal acc i have no record of the transaction.Not even a pending status.I contacted the buyer and they buyer said he used bill me later too pay for it.I dont know how that works or if im just being robbed?
