How long does it take to add money?

I sold an item on eBay that the buyer wanted to return. I agreed but it was a week after I sold the item so I already used the funds for another purchase. I told the buyer I deposited the money and PayPal initially said it could take 3-5 days. In my PayPal transactions, it says the funds would be available on Oct 13. I deposited the funds on Oct 3. Is it really going to take 8 business days? What happened to 3-5 days. I deal with RBC, btw.

Welcome to the community! Transferring money from a bank to PayPal can take up to 8 business days with Canadian accounts, though outgoing transfers may take fewer days. To learn more, please take a look at this post.

You should also be able to perform a refund even with no balance, where eCheck would be presented as the funding option. If you did opt to do this, it would be a separate transaction from the add funds action you've already initiated, but doing so would get the ball rolling on the refund more quickly and then you could spend or withdraw the money when your add funds clears.

It ended up taking a full 7 business days for the money to appear.
