subscr_cancel and subscr_eot for auto recurring payments

I've am setting up a recurring subscription on a website and a bit confused about subscr_eot  and subscr_cancel

scenario:

Say the subscription is yearly, if the subscriber cancels their subscription from their own PayPal account before the yearly term is up does PayPal still send the subscr_eot at the and of yearly term? When I tested it seems that  subscr_eot would not be sent after subscr_cancel has been sent for a given subscription.
