Sent money to wrong account

I have a friend, we shall call him Eddie, who claims that he sent money to the wrong person. Money was not accepted, so he canceled the payment on Monday. It is now Friday. How long will it take for the payment (that was not debited from his checking account, BTW) for the payment to cancel so he can re-send the money correctly? He claims it has been pending for days now.

Most cards can take up to 30 days for the refund to returned back to the card

If Eddie sent the payment using a Debit or Credit card, the refund will credit to the card used. It may take up to 30 days for the card to be credited.  If he used PayPal Balance, the funds should have been returned fairly instantly.
